Top six holiday camps

Apart from the obvious benefit of keeping the children busy over the long holidays, summer camps are great ways for them to learn new skills and mingle with other children. Whether they are a budding musician, the next Bear Grylls, or a bookworm, there is a vast range of summer camps on offer in south west London and Surrey to keep them entertained. We’ve chosen five of our favourite that are guaranteed to delight.

Wild adventures in the woods

Treat your little ones to an immersive experience this August with a four-day wild adventure in Surrey’s woodland with Surrey Wildlife Trust’s Childrens’ Holiday Club. Children will be encouraged to explore the woodland habitats of the nature reserve, play treasure hunt-style games, and explore the great outdoors in all its glory using orienteering and survival skills.

Orleans House Gallery’s Summer Programme

Join the team at Orleans House Gallery for its special series of summer programmes and workshops inspired by the spectacular nature and woodland area that surrounds the gallery. Children will be able to explore their creative sides at workshops focusing on 3D constructions, painting and textiles. The project is open to children aged up to 15 with various times and styles of workshops available.

Playball Camps

Playball are a series of holiday camps located in Battersea Park offering a holistic approach to learning. Children aged between 2 and 8 enjoy physical activities in a safe and secure environment and learn how to develop fundamental building blocks of sport, agility balance as well as endurance and strength. Little ones will be in safe hands and introduced to a range of sports including tennis, cricket, hockey and rugby.

Rose Theatre Summer Schools

Coming into its 10th year of summer schools for young people, the Rose will be hosting an introduction to drama for everyone aged between 7-25. From short courses to full on production plays, the Rose will be great excerience for any budding actor, and take place in the beautiful theatre itself, giving them great exposure to a dramatics venue. The Rose runs two-day theatres up until week-long runs, and has a prestigious academy too.

Polka Theatre Summer School

Children will be encouraged to create a new piece of theatre this summer to perform for friends and family on the Polka Main Stage. Budding actors aged 8-14 can spend a week training and working with a professional theatre director to learn new skills and meet other young performers. For children aged 6-9, the summer workshop is run by Polka’s very own puppeteer and musical director to create an unforgettable musical puppet show.

Sports camps in Battersea Park

Battersea Park offers a range of affordable camps for juniors and tots to keep them busy this summer. Whether they’re the next Roger Federer, or have never picked up a racket in their little lives, Battersea’s tennis camps cater for all abilities aged six and upwards. The park also offers athletics and multi-sports camps, as well as tots’ activities aimed at improving social skills, general coordination and balance.

Upbeat Music Camps

Experience the life of a rock star with Upbeat’s holiday music courses. Learn how to sing, dance, and even write your own songs, all guided by fully qualified teachers and professional musicians. The week-long course will end with a show stopping performance from the kids, and a CD recording so they will have a lasting memoir to go home with.
