Dance Hall Days

As we mark the 20th year of Time & Leisure, we are feeling the spirit of celebration. To commemorate any kind of momentous occasion such as this, a soiree is required with the trio of dinner, drinks and dancing. The last one in particular can make a night go from good to great. Why not try something new and mix it up with a little salsa dancing or swing? Whether it is for an anniversary, landing a promotion, or even just celebrating the end of a working week, this collection of not-your-typical dance spots will get your groove going this weekend.

Dance Attic Studios

The Argentine tango is as much about sensuality as it is about perfection, with partners rhythmically enveloped in one another. Many people say once you try Argentine tango, it takes hold. Try it yourself in Fulham, where instructors host lessons every Friday night for beginners. Come and be transported to a milonga in Buenos Aires.
Every Friday; 7:30pm – 8:30pm; £6 (£2 entry fee)
Dance Attic Studios, SW6 1LY

The Candlelight Club

Calling all Gatsby fans and anyone who likes a good speakeasy party: The Candlelight Club sends you back to the Roaring Twenties for a night with vintage cocktails, dinner options, live jazz music, cabaret and period costumes. The secret venue is entirely lit by candles and gives it that “intimacy of a large party.” Guests will receive an email a few days before with the location of the event, so be sure to have your best flapper dress and gangster suit ready.
29 September; 7pm – midnight; £25 entry ticket, £45 dinner ticket
Location TBC

SPT: SalsaPartyTime

It’s called Sensual Sundays and starting from 6:30pm guests come for an hour lesson in Kizomba, a popular dance from Angola, followed by an hour lesson of Bachata, a style of dance from the Dominican Republic. Guests can also skip the classes and go straight to the after-party at 8:30pm, with the best of Kizomba, Bachata and Salsa music. It will certainly spice up a typical Sunday evening.
Every Sunday; 6:30pm to midnight; £5 for the party, £8 for one class and the party
Edward’s Bar, SW19 3TA

Looking Ahead: Pop-Up Ceilidh

If you fancy a little ceilidh dancing, be on the lookout for Fiddle Paradiddle’s Pop-Up Ceilidh in Fulham. A professional caller goes through each dance move, so keeping up is easy. Plus, they’ve teamed up with local breweries, so you can have good drinks and good fun.  Tickets sell out quickly for this event, so get them before it’s too late.
