Ann Gibbons – AG Interiors
Interior designer Ann Gibbons talks about her passion and deeper understanding of the power of empathetic interior design
How did you get into your chosen career and why?
My whole career has been in the design industry in fashion or interiors, which follow the same seasonal trends exploring colour, texture, form and style. I graduated with a dress and textile degree and spent my early years working in the fashion industry, working at Harrods, Simpsons of Piccadilly and fi nally Jaeger. Having renovated several of my own homes over the years, which became my passion, I then trained at KLC School of Design, as an interior designer and established my own business.
How do you work with the client?
The client/ designer relationship is crucial and it is very important to invest a lot of time in developing the relationship in order to ‘take the brief’ by understanding the scope of the work, their lifestyle, their preferences and dislikes and their budget constraints. It is important to understand the client’s emotional involvement in the project, who are the decision makers, determine the client’s expectations and what the client wishes to achieve. During the whole process, the client is involved with the concept, the scheme and the whole development process so that we come to a perfect design solution that suits their needs and is completely bespoke to them. Having taken the ‘brief’, I work through the design concept which will convey the style/ mood of the proposed scheme. Once this is agreed with the client, this is developed in more detail which involves space planning, furniture layouts and sourcing. Again, once the client is happy that we have provided them with the perfect design solution that suits their needs, I then manage and implement the agreed scheme – ordering, organising delivery and installation, supervising and organising tradesmen to ensure that the project comes together as smoothly as possible, on time and on budget. Finally, styling to provide the finishing touches, including sourcing artwork and accessories.
