This market showcases the best of Wimbledon’s fabulous food scene. Your senses will be transported all over the world from this corner of South West London. Stalls offer a wide array of global street foods, as well as baked goods and sweet treats to keep everyone happy. The market has grown since its humble beginnings in 2013, and provides a valuable opportunity for local producers to display their newest edible creations. Come down to the Piazza to catch up with members of the community and support our local independent businesses in the heart of Wimbledon.
Every first weekend of the month, 11am-6pm; The Piazza, Wimbledon
2 Kew Village Food Market
This market boasts 45 independent stalls serving everything from meat and fish, to Ethiopian street food, to kombucha – the latest on-trend super food. Lorna’s Indian Kitchen has long been one of the most popular stalls at Kew Village Market, run by The Gangotra sisters who were crowned the best family cooks in Great Britain as winners of BBC Two’s The Big Family Cooking Showdown in 2017. Hilton Hams is another stall not to be missed, offering a selection of delicious charcuterie. The market has become a platform for local bands to share their music with the community, so why not grab a local craft beer and make the most of the live entertainment.
The first Sunday of every month from 10am – 2pm; Station Parade, Kew Village
3 Richmond’s Duck Pond Foodies Market
This market is located in Heron Square, Richmond over-looking the Thames. Enjoy the beautiful view and soak up the vibrant atmosphere while sampling some of the gourmet food on offer. Whether you are at the market to do your weekly fruit and veg shop, or there for the food vendors serving delicious hot meals, you can be sure you’ll get sustainably produced food with social responsibility at its heart.
Every Saturday at various times; Heron Square, Richmond
4 Maple Road Surbiton Famers’ Market
This spot is well-known for its high-quality food and the market acts as a stage for independent producers to display their expertise and impress local customers. The market holds cookery challenges for professionals as well as amateurs, so why not get stuck in and see if you can wow your neighbours with your culinary ability at the next fair? Maple Road also acts as the centre of this vibrant community with schools, churches, Scouts, charities and arts groups all enjoy exchanging ideas and strengthening neighbourhood ties. Since it began in October 2009, this much-loved South West London food market has helped to raise more than £50,000 for local charities that are close to their hearts.
Every third Saturday of each month from 9am – 1pm; Maple Road, Surbiton
5 Guildford Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market in Guildford is one of many thriving food markets in Surrey, bringing the countryside to the town. Various local farms sell their produce at the market so you can rest assured that your food has not travelled far before it reaches your basket. The market attracts over forty different local vendors, many of whom have been selling their goods there for almost twenty years. Farm animals often make the monthly trip to Guildford High Street where children are invited to see and feed them, making the market an excellent morning activity for you and the little ones.
The first Tuesday of every month from 10.30 am – 3.30 pm, Guildford High Street
6 Duke of York Square Fine Food Market
Not your typical farmers’ market, this Chelsea-based market was started by Partridges in 2005. The market gives independent producers and family businesses the opportunity to trade in an affluent part of town, and city dwellers can escape the bustle of Sloane Square and recharge after a long day of shopping. The difficult part is deciding between a cream-filled doughnut from Cake Hole, or an authentic Sicilian dessert from Casa Cannoli. If savoury is what you’re after, the market offers plenty including a handmade sushi stall, Aki Maki, where the stall-holders expertly prepare the rolls right in front of your eyes.
Every Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm, located just off the King’s Road, Chelsea
7 Venn Street Market
This famous Clapham street in South West London was pedestrianised by Lambeth council in 2012, providing the perfect setting for a local weekly market. Unsurprisingly, the market has grown rapidly since then, and is now the centre of Clapham Common’s dynamic community. The market is known for its friendly traders who are passionate about delivering freshly sourced, seasonal goods at a fair price. The market largely resembles a traditional English farmers’ market, selling all the essential meats, cheeses, baked goods and fruit and veg. However, you will also notice some modern touches as the market is very much in touch with Clapham’s young, hip population.
