A new concept in independent living that offers elegant apartments and a friendly community right on your doorstep may be just what you’re looking for

The UK lags far behind many other countries, including the US and Australia, when it comes to providing stylish, high quality homes designed for independent later living. This is the case even in some of the most desirable residential areas, such as South West London. The downsizing market is enormous; each year, for example, some 700,000 people reach the average age of retirement, yet only 3% of the UK’s housing stock is tailored to this demand.

To realise their vision of creating a new community, Lifestyle Residences considered every aspect of the design of Mulberry Court, incorporating a café, library and clubrooms as well as flexible event space, which they anticipate apartment owners will use for everything from exercise classes to drinks parties. The extensive gardens are a key feature – designed by a Chelsea award-winning team who were briefed to create a garden that would offer something for every owner to enjoy. They came up with a landscape including areas for quiet contemplation, outdoor dining and gardening.

For John, developments like Mulberry Court are the future for downsizers, offering as they do the chance to free up equity and start a new chapter when they decide to move from a much-loved family home that has ceased to fit their needs. He was especially pleased to be able to bring a development like Mulberry Court to Hampton Wick, a location that has suffered a huge dearth of property suitable for downsizers, and buyers will be able to see what’s on offer when the show apartment opens in February 2021.

Historically there has certainly been very little at the quality end of the market, offering, as this new development does, apartments with private outdoor terraces and balconies with beautiful views.
