Women’s safety in Kingston

Police in Kingston invite women to walk and talk event

Vithiyaa Saseenthrakumar finds out about a new initiative to make women feel safer

Police in Kingston are inviting women from the area to join them for a foot patrol to speak about their concerns over crime and women’s safety in the borough.

The intentions behind the walk are to communicate with the public so they can express their worries, with the goal of increasing women’s confidence and safety. Female officers will walk alongside women from their communities as they go out on patrol in open spaces. After listening first-hand to the women’s concerns, the Police will work alongside partners to make a change in the area in order for women to feel safer and more comfortable.

The Met is also hoping the event will encourage more females to consider a career in policing. Currently one in three of the Met’s local neighbourhood officers is female.

The event will take place on April 25th from 13:00 to 16:00 and it will start outside Kingston Police Station, 5-7 High Street, Kingston Upon Thames, KT1 1LB.
