The doors to South London’s largest arts centre will reopen on 16 September. Find out what’s in store
Fairfield Halls in Croydon has undergone a multi-million pound redevelopment and after three years closure, the doors to South London’s largest arts centre will reopen on 16 September 2019. Expect a multi-disciplinary arts and entertainment venue with a range of spaces hosting classical, theatre, dance, comedy, family entertainment and music productions; as well as providing a business hub and open space for the community to access to enjoy throughout the day. The new venue operators are BH Live – a social enterprise and leading operator of leisure and event venues.
The first season will run from September 2019 to March 2020, in the Ashcroft Playhouse, the world-class Phoenix Concert Hall, and in spaces across the building, including the Arnhem Foyer – an aspirational community hub with a free programme of events and exhibitions, and new spaces including The Recreational (live music venue), the Savvy Studio, the Talawa Studio and John Whitgift Community Cube.

Behind the scenes guided tours celebrating the venues unique heritage are available on 21st and September, and there’ll be a chance to glimpse some of the rehearsals for performances from the London Concert Orchestra playing movie classics composed by Hans Zimmer & John Williams.
Fairfield Halls reopens and launches with the UK premiere of Angela’s Ashes – The Musical
The critically acclaimed Irish production of Angela’s Ashes – The Musical makes its UK premiere from Tuesday 24th September – 5th October 2019.. This musical adaptation of Frank McCourt’s memoir will provide an emotional story of a childhood in Limerick and beyond. With music and lyrics written by Adam Howell, and starring Jacinta Whyte and Eoin Cannon, the cast bring a deeply moving yet humorous performance providing a rarity of bringing the audience to tears one minute and laughing out loud the next. This is a 15-show production not to be missed, with tickets priced from £15 – book your tickets. Additional theatre premieres include the award winning Once – The Musical, Friendsical – a parody of the hit TV show Friends, and stage adaptations of The Lady Vanishes and The Night Watch.
Other big names to look out for at Fairfield Halls – Lenny Henry, Jimmy Carr, and Sandi Toksvig from the comedy circuit. Classical greats include Royal wedding cellist – Sheku Kanneh-Mason playing with The London Mozart Players, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and The BBC Symphony Orchestra – bringing classical music back to the heart of Croydon. Kids can adventure with the likes of Peppa Pig, Justin and Tabby McTat; and the whole family can be immersed into a magical Christmas with the pantomime Cinderella.

Following the major redevelopment Fairfield Halls will feature a full variety programme, and there will be a number of ways to gain the best experience in the venue. As well as the free lunchtime events, there are ways to get top seats at the best price with the Fairfield Membership and Fairfield Season Saver options; they’re also offering early bookers the opportunity to get £15 tickets for band A & B seats.
