Kingston Charitable Foundation

Community needs meets compassionate action thanks to the work of local charity, the Kingston Charitable Foundation. Committed to addressing the diverse needs of our local community, grants provided by our Foundation this year have helped over 25,000 individuals grappling with mental health issues, food poverty, hardship, advocacy and other challenges.

The Foundation works to make Kingston a more equitable and caring community. We empower local charities and volunteer organisations that are working hard to address inequalities in Kingston upon Thames, by offering grants and sharing available resources to drive meaningful change. We also extend individual grants to those who need it most, giving them a helping hand during tough times and a chance to make the most of new opportunities.

Our grant programmes cover eight key areas which reflect the needs of both individuals and community groups in our borough, including food poverty, support for families in need, community building, access to sports and movement, mental health, disability support, advocacy, and environmental initiatives.

Each grant we provide is carefully tailored to meet the varied requirements of local charitable organisations, helping individuals and families to thrive. This year, we have awarded over 50 grants which included funding to: help set up and run Chessington Square 1 Wellbeing Café (which provides a safe place to local people and much-needed food and warmth); to create and distribute Winter Warmer bags containing hand-made blankets, hot water bottles, thermal socks, and gloves to potentially vulnerable people, and a grant to provide a bed and bedroom storage for an inspirational family where the father provides 24-hour care for his child, despite working full time and having his own health issues.

Our last Impact Report provides a window through which to view everything that we have collectively achieved for our shared community over the past year, and demonstrates how funding from Place Based Giving schemes, such as ours, can enrich the lives and wellbeing of so many. Our latest report will be published next Spring.

You can help us to award even more grants in the new year and beyond, by giving to our Kingston Christmas Wishes appeal which launches on Giving Tuesday, 28th November 2023.  We have already had a very generous pledge for our appeal, from the Rowan Bentall Charitable Trust, to match fund donations which means that every penny you donate will be doubled!  And if you’re a UK taxpayer your donation can be Gift Aided too, increasing your donation by a further 25%.

The week launches with a Christmas Wishes Pub Quiz at the Boaters Inn in Kingston.  As well as prizes, there’s also a chance to win some fantastic raffle prizes including a Christmas Wishes Hamper, tickets for which are available to buy here.

You will be able to donate all week here, from Giving Tuesday until Tuesday 5th December, to help us collectively support our shared community.

Kingston Charitable Foundation CEO, Hicky Kingsbury says: “Thanks to the generosity of individuals and businesses since our launch in 2021, we’ve been able to improve the well-being of thousands of individuals in our wonderful borough. With your support for our Foundation, we can continue to make a profound difference to people who need our help most, and create a future filled with hope and care for our community in Kingston.”
