How would you like to support your local charity, and be in with a chance to win £25,000? The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, a London based charity which cares for adults recovering from brain injury, has launched its first weekly charity lottery, giving you the chance to support their work and win some great cash prizes.
By playing the RHN weekly lottery you’ll be helping patients like Nick. A passionate guitarist who has performed on stage with several bands, he was left unable to play after a stroke in 2018 left him too weak to hold his guitar. Fortunately, he was admitted to the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, and since then he has been working with the Music Therapy team and Biomedical Engineering Teams as part of his recovery.
Our Music Therapy service helps brain injured patients to improve physical, cognitive and communication skills, as well as helping with emotional expression and relating to others.
For Nick, his biggest challenge to begin with was just being able to hold his guitar, and that is where the skills of our other therapy teams came to his aid.
Technicians from our Biomedical Engineering Team designed and fabricated a unique rest for Nick’s wheelchair, which supports the weight of the guitar’s body while he’s playing. Our occupational therapy team also designed and made a finger rest which supports Nick’s hand as he’s strumming the strings.
As a result of all the hard work and dedication of all our teams who are supporting Nick through his recovery, he was able to pick up his guitar and play again for the first time in June 2022, four years after his stroke.
