Top fashion trends we’re loving this season
The gorgeous autumn/winter styles that should be on your radar
Meaning Business
Fashion is going suited and booted with smart workwear big news. We’re swapping loungewear for tailored suits, blazers, wide-legged trousers and pin-stripes and crisp white shirts are a wardrobe must-have, this time with big collars and sharp edges.
Winter florals
A floral dress is a summer bbq essential, but this year the florals are not going anywhere for autumn/winter. Take them down a shade with dark backgrounds and dramatic prints. We like the new range from Hope and Ivy, which has brought iconic William Morris prints to life with stunning dresses.
All about the feeling
As seen in interiors, textures are going to be popular and a mix and match of fabrics will be on shop floors. If you have always wanted to experiment with velvet or suede, now is the time. A velvet blazer or dress for a winter wedding or occasion is a great way to trial your velvet experience, or a suede pair of boots can enhance an office or evening look. Boucle jackets, coats and bags are also going to be a popular choice. Knitwear goes ribbed and textured with detail on the sleeves, and peplum hems.
Scarlet fever
Whilst Margot Robbie made ‘fuchsia pink’ top of the colour chart this summer, red is the hue of choice this season, and the brighter and bolder the red the better. Too much? Fear not as there are a wealth of red accessories which will be available so you can integrate scarlet at your own discretion.
Metallics and Punk
Metallics have long been a festive favourite, but this AW we will see metallic permeating all outfits, influenced and paying homage to the late Godmother of Punk, Dame Vivienne Westwood. Whilst previously a splash of metal to jazz up an outfit was popular, this year – think full metal immersion and an embracing of metallic make up and clothing way before December.
Make up: Gothic glam and statement lashes
Echoing the metal trends in clothing, then make up will see a nod to metals, gothic glam, face gems, vampy lips, colour bursts, slept in make- up and statement lashes. If that all sounds a bit overwhelming then you can choose a paired down version and feel to one of these looks, with more subtle and gentle metallic shimmers and thicker mascaras.
Hair: new cuts and colours
Akos Bodi, Creative Director at the Gina Conway Salon & Spa in Wimbledon sees a slow but unstoppable shift in how clients are gradually opening up to shorter haircuts and messier shapes.
“The last few years we’ve seen hair moving into a safe space, somewhat lacking in daring curiosity. Thanks to the global aesthetic becoming more diverse, we’ve entered a new cycle where change is celebrated and welcomed with open arms. With public personalities and celebrity fashionistas endorsing this shift, this movement is gaining momentum from season to season.”
“A hairstyle is an extension of one’s personality and the clients’ main accessory. It’s important to consider a person as a whole and how their hair can finish and complement their total look. Nothing gives more confidence then when that balance is achieved. Being comfortable is great but going through life and not experiencing different sides of ourselves seems a missed opportunity to turn heads, stop traffic or just raise an eyebrow.”
