Alida Ballard – SAS Business Box
Alida Ballard talks to us about the SAS Business Box
Alida, what is the concept behind the SAS Business box?
Often business owners struggle to find relevant and up-to-date information to help them start, run and grow their businesses. The Box gives them access to over 200 articles, videos, templates, checklists and tools. It saves time and money as everything is in one place.
The Revenue Target Calculator (RTC) is a revolutionary tool on The Box. Members plug in what they want to take out of their businesses (after tax on the profit) and their costs, the RTC works out the sales target they need to achieve, to make it happen. No more need for spreadsheets. Just an easy 5 step process.
Where did the name SAS Business Boxcome from?
I am an accountant with over 25 years of experience of working with micro and small businesses in various industries. I set up Surrey Accountancy Services (SAS), just over 10 years ago and the SAS Business Box was launched late last year.
Why and how did The Box evolve?
My passion to help business owners thrive and survive was born out of first-hand experience of what happens when a business fails.
My father is a serial entrepreneur and in 1983, he started a double glazing company. It had a factory, a showroom, eight employees, four teams of self-employed fitters and two sales staff.
By 1986 the company was profitable, with a turnover of more than £1m. My father decided to expand his sales team and also lease company cars for them.
He did what a lot of business owners do, in only thinking about the increase cost but not the extra sales the company would have to make, in order to pay for the costs, without impacting on net profit. Although sales did go up, it wasn’t enough and he had to use cash reserves to cover the cost. When the stock market crash of 1987 happened, the struggling company couldn’t survive and we lost our home.
The resources on The Box and in particular the RTC (described above) allows our members to gain crucial information to future-proof their businesses.
“I am so pleased my friend told me about the SAS Business Box. It has saved me loads of time and money, as I now have access to all the information I need in one place. I love the flowchart structure and it’s all so easy to understand.
Being able to use the revenue target calculator to work out my sales targets has been fantastic. No need for complicated spreadsheets and I can use it as many times as I like. It is so easy to use and a massive eye-opener! Needless to say, my company is growing from strength to strength!”
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of realising my dream to help entrepreneurs survive the early years and grow their businesses.
The RTC is not available anywhere else. It’s simple and straightforward and there is no need for anyone else to interpret the results for you. Hit the sales target generated and feel confident about your future. I am proud to be the person to create and share it, to help businesses survive.
What are your plans for the future of the business?
We aim to start SAS Business Bootcamps later in the year. This will be based around training in the core areas of business.
What else does SAS offer?
We provide the usual services you would expect from an accountancy service, including bookkeeping and payroll.
