The top chef’s favourite spots in south west London

On living in Wimbledon…

During the summer we love being in Wimbledon, the atmosphere in the Village when the Tennis Championships are taking place is fabulous, we missed it last year. Walking through the beautiful village with purple and green flower displays in every shop window is great.

Summer dining…

There are plenty of places to eat in SW London and it’s great to stay local when we can. We have a Megan’s in the Village which is ideal for a brunch. We love Trinity in Clapham for a lunch or dinner, especially now they have an outside space too. Can’t beat Light on the Common for a hearty breakfast and to watch the world go past. A great place to try in Battersea Rise is Sinabro, not a secret to the locals and always busy, excellent food and atmosphere.

Where I like to shop…

We buy lots of fresh produce from the Village, either at the Sunday market which is a great way to support growers and artisan producers, there are lots of them around. Also we shop at Bayley and Sage, which specialise in a variety of fresh produce, cheese, cold meats and butchery. We are lucky enough to have two new additions to the Village so we are very spoilt – Prezzemolo & Vitale, a supermarket/deli with its roots in Sicilian Produce, and The Table at Vallebona, also Italian and a veritable treasure trove of ingredients.

My BBQ tip…

When you are cooking on the bbq and you have marinated your meat/fish/vegetables, make a brush from some woody herbs that you have in your garden – such as rosemary and thyme. Tie them together at the top with some string. Then use the herby brush, dipped in your leftover marinade/or olive oil to baste the food on the grill. It adds a hint of herbs to the cooking process.
