Rose Theatre joins #MissingLiveTheatre project
UK theatres wrapped in tape to raise awareness of their plight
Theatres protest with temporary tape installation
This week, the Rose Theatre in Kingston has joined theatres across the country in wrapping their venues in pink tape as a part of Scene Change’s #MissingLiveTheatre project, which highlights the ongoing impact of the pandemic on the industry.
The project was inspired by hazard tape at the National Theatre, put up to prevent the public from gathering there, which made the theatre look like a ‘toxic site’. The National was then the first theatre to receive a pink tape installation.
Theatre designers Liz Wright, Anna Lewis and Rachael Rooney designed the installation and Rose staff volunteered to help set up the tape, which reads ‘MISSING LIVE THEATRE’.
The installation will remain at the Rose until today (Friday 24 July), after which the tape will be reused at another venue.
