The team at Blue Wave Swim School tell us about the motivation behind the company, and what makes their lessons so personalised and attentive

Tell us a bit about your business.

I started Blue Wave Swim School nine years ago by offering quality swimming lessons in southwest London. As a local mum and education enthusiast, I am always on the lookout to fi nd the best place for my child to do sports and extra-curriculum activities – I know many local parents do the same. So, Blue Wave is about teaching swimming in the best way possible. From babies to adults we offer swim lessons for all ages. My mantra is ‘quality over quantity’ and my business refl ects that. Quality of swim lessons are kept high by having only the best swim teachers to be in the Blue Wave team and use only purpose- built swimming pools for our classes.

Why did you set up your business?

I used to be a competitive swimmer and became a swimming teacher aged 19 at my swim club. Later on in 2008, after spending eight years lecturing in sport science at university, I left academia. I spent one year coaching swimming in the U.S and on my return I started Blue Wave. Years of teaching experience gave me the idea for providing quality swim lessons: ‘Good but patchy won’t work. People want swimming lessons which are consistently good.’

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

Seeing people learn to swim properly and The Blue Wave Swim community. It is so rewarding to see our community of parents who join us and stay with us for several years because they see we care about what we do.

What makes your business stand out?

Professionalism defi nitely sets us apart. My time is dedicated to being an expert and to ensuring my swim teachers are, too. I think all teachers should feel a massive duty to be the best at teaching and I’ve dedicated the majority of my time to the teaching aspect of my swim school, doing further training around the world.

What do your clients value most about your services?

Consistency and results. Many times I have dealt with people who came to us after plenty of lessons elsewhere without achieving any meaningful results. My focus is on providing progressive lessons consistently.

What is the most rewarding part of your work?

Seeing people learn a valuable life skill.
