Perfect Presents

Rachel Roberts, owner of Wishlist, tells us about her eclectic collection of locally and globally sourced gifts and cards

Tell us about Wishlist.

All my friends will tell you that owning my own store has always been on my “Wishlist”! I actually saw the shop was for sale on SW18 Mumsnet with an appeal to keep the small local business open. I responded, bought, refurbished and opened Wishlist in early December. It’s been a huge learning curve but an amazing experience. I wanted to create a store that continued to offer beautiful and modern cards, and a wide range of well known gift brands, unique products sourced from around the world and hand crafted items from the local community. The response has been amazing!

What do you enjoy most about owning your shop?

I’m pleased to say that it’s a joy to come into the shop every day, meet new people and see the pleasure customers get from finding new cards and gifts. I love getting feedback (both good and constructive ) It helps me choose the right products for the shop. Working with local residents who make beautiful jewellery, sew, knit and design has been amazing and this is something I really want to expand on.

What are you passionate about?

My passion has always been fashion and working with creative people. I spent 10 years working as a Womenswear Buyer and learned a lot about commerce and business. Having sourced, bought and created ranges for a high street retailer, I then moved into Retail Recruitment, helping others find their perfect role. This continues through my other business, Retail Recruitment Plus.

My hope for Wishlist is to launch the website in the coming months, expand the kids, beauty, fashion and lifestyle products and continue to collaborate with fantastic brands and creative talents.
