There’s plenty of fun to be had this weekend, whatever the weather. Explore your local parks and commons, get little ones’ young minds in gear with creative workshops, or travel the world from the comfort of your sofa over a brunchable stack of pancakes with a guide to what’s on this weekend.

SPACE EXPLORATION

For some otherworldly entertainment, take a virtual tour of the moon, go behind the scenes of rocket testing programmes and meet some of the talented engineers and scientists working on expeditions to Mars. More info.

Wimbledon’s creative community hub has a number of online activities to inspire young minds. Learn how theatre is created, or get all the family involved in the Polka’s choir programme. More info.

HEAD TO THE GARDEN

With a range of activities held over the half term, it’s not too late to get involved in all the Royal Parks have to offer online. There are downloadable activities to tackle over the weekend, plus an interactive workshop this Friday (February 19) with a gardening focus, which will take budding horticulturalists through the creation of compost, how to choose invertebrate-friendly plants, and top tips on creating a wildflower meadow. STORYTIME WITH THE TWITS

Introduce young minds to the magic of Roald Dahl with a theatrical reading of The Twits. Digital storytelling aimed at children aged 6-12, the reading is available to view on the Unicorn Theatre’s Youtube channel until 3 March 2021. More info.

TRAVEL THE WORLD

Fuel your wanderlust with a host of livestreams, transporting viewers to tropical climes and introducing future Attenboroughs to wildlife habitats across the globe. EXPLORE OUR LOCAL PARKS

With the Arctic chills of recent weeks behind us and sunny highs of 15C forecast in the capital, there’s no better time to explore our local commons and parks. Soak up the seclusion of Cannizaro Park with a coffee and pastry combo from one of Wimbledon Village’s independent cafes, or descend on Richmond Park, camera in hand, on the hunt for deer.
