The Swords Travel Diaries: Cruising Into 2020

Swords Travel looks at some great new options, whether you are looking for an adult-oriented cruise or something for all the family

After experiencing cruises for the last 10 years, myself and the team have seen huge changes in the industry and particularly how cruise lines have advanced. This month we’re going to talk about two cruise lines that we think have the current edge in the market for an ocean cruise. We’ll be looking at the adult-only concept with the exciting new Virgin Voyages and family cruising with MSC Cruises.

Adult by design – Virgin Voyages

Earlier this year, myself and Mark headed out to New York for the launch of Virgin Voyages with the one and only Richard Branson. Virgin Voyages, in our opinion, is set to shake up the cruise industry with its rebellious luxe design. Nourish the soul – dining will be an experience with a ‘no buffet’ policy, dine where and when you like with an array of over 20 eateries. Whether you fancy steak, sushi or if you are a vegetarian head to Razzle Dazzle for an experience not to be forgotten. When it comes to entertainment, expect the unexpected – musical synergy and theatrical twists and turns — the events aim to transform your experience whilst floating at sea.

When it comes to ports of call, Virgin Voyages include a stopover at its own private area, The Beach Club in Bimini, Bahamas, where you can see the likes of Mark Ronson on the DJ decks. With your cabins on board, these range from insiders to mega rock star suites. On all of the Voyages, you can guarantee one thing – tips, unlimited WIFI, all food, and group workouts are included as standard as well as soft drinks and water. So whether you’re looking for tranquillity at sea, restorative mornings or late nights under the stars — it’s all about balance your way.

It’s a family affair – MSC Cruises

This year, we also attended the launch in Southampton for MSC Bellissima. I’ve always loved MSC for the quality of its ships and, as the largest family-owned cruise line, no one understands families better than MSC. The ships offer all the luxuries of a resort holiday with so many extras included free of charge, such as the Aqua Park, Swimming Pools and Water Slide to the top games consoles. MSC provides a varied programme for the whole family and supervised activities, with five age-appropriate kids clubs and child prices up to and including 17-year-olds. When it comes to dining, there is a choice of the main buffet restaurants, or an array of speciality restaurants. With MSC being worldwide, it offers everything from Mediterranean itineraries to the Middle East and Caribbean all-year-round. With another brand-new ship just launched in November – MSC Grandiosa, there are lots of exciting new itineraries and destinations to be discovered with MSC Cruises.

So, whether you’re looking for adult by design or non-stop family entertainment, why not come and speak to our cruise experts at our dedicated cruise event in January where MSC Cruises and Virgin Voyages will be attending.
