After almost two years navigating between semi and full lockdown, we have certainly developed a new approach to dressing, part of the internal re-evaluation of what really matters, including our sartorial life and party fashion. One example of this is that sneakers have firmly emerged as the unspoken uniform. Visiting a recent fashion event at the beginning of autumn, I couldn’t help but notice most women dressed in flowery, pretty dresses and sporting their white sneakers. Of course, there isn’t anything wrong with our beloved new essential item: just like denim, they are one of the style symbols of a moment in history, an adopted expression of what the times are saying and how we want to feel.

But there will be some of us who, venturing into life after nearly two years surrendering to half-plans, are more than ready to jump with gusto at any opportunity to glam up and go all out. The good news is that there is enough room and exciting trends to accommodate both camps.

If daytime is still very much a relaxed and informal affair, there are plenty of opportunities to make a statement if you wish. Indoors, pretty dresses in winter florals are fabulous either with your sneakers or even cowboy boots. For parties, we’re loving deep pinks and purples, sumptuous textures such as velvets and fake furs, and jewel shades such as emerald and ruby.

When it comes to the classic and essential pieces, invest in texture and quality. Take full advantage of a good piece of knitwear, mixing and matching with complementing and contrasting textures and colours. Curate your own look, adding personality and individual touches.

Print, texture, embroidery or embellishment will go a long way and can elevate your look to a modern, sophisticated and unique outfit. For walks on Boxing Day, the coat can be the best vehicle to communicate a statement and there are plenty of options to make you feel special and leave an impression. An animal print jacket will work with jeans as well as a party dress. Meanwhile, a splash of gold and sparkle is a must for the festive season!
