Feltonfleet School

Cobham  |  494 girls and boys  | 3 – 13 years

Feltonfleet is a leading preparatory school for girls and boys aged 3-13, conveniently located near the A3, M25 and A245, and with daily bus routes from South London and the southern Home Counties. It is a rural oasis amongst the urban hustle, nestled within 25 acres of picturesque grounds. Here children are encouraged to use their imagination, think creatively, explore the world around them and strive to excel.

Feltonfleet offers a warm and inclusive community in which everyone is not only valued, but encouraged to create an even more tranquil environment by practising simple acts of kindness – and, according to head Shelley Lance, ‘by taking time to stop, think and breathe in challenging moments’. The atmosphere she has cultivated fosters pupils’ inquisitiveness and critical thinking – as well as immersion in their education – and is of a piece with Lance’s passion for stretching childhoods and avoiding ‘destination school’ stress.

Feltonfleet’s core belief, that individuals really matter, shapes the values driven ethos, where daily life revolves around four fundamental principles: honesty, responsibility, respect and kindness. These core beliefs guide pupils towards emotional, social, academic and physical success, and the results speak for themselves. Each year 100% of pupils secure places at first-rate independent senior schools and on average, one in three pupils wins a senior school scholarship in recognition of their particular talents in a specific discipline. St John’s School Leatherhead is currently the most popular destination for Feltonfleet pupils, followed by Epsom College, and Claremont Fan Court and Reed’s Schools. The school enjoys excellent connections with a wide range of senior schools, and offers its pupils and parents valuable guidance and support to find the right destination school for each pupil.

Every child, from Nursery upwards, benefits from subject specialist teaching and use of Feltonfleet’s facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, two all-weather surface Multi Use Games Areas, full-sized sports hall with climbing wall, hard surface tennis courts, theatre with retractable seating for up to 400, three science labs, DT workshop, Art studio, and two rifle ranges (air and .22) on top of scenic sports fields and woodland areas.

Throughout their Feltonfleet journey pupils are provided with high quality learning experiences that lead to consistently high levels of progress and achievement.  Throughout the curriculum staff seek to equip each child with core academic skills and learning attributes so that they can take pride and responsibility for their own learning. Children gradually progress from being dependent learners to inter-dependent learners, developing the self-esteem and the confidence in themselves to ‘risk’ learning and acquiring new skills.

To facilitate busy family lives, Feltonfleet offers an extended day for all children, from 06:30 – 18:30. There are a number of options from prep, to co-curricular clubs and high quality supervision, all in a safe, familiar and welcoming environment. Parents can choose how much or how little they would like their children to take part in outside of core school hours, and choices can be adapted depending upon the interests, stamina and needs of each individual child.

Whilst the majority are day pupils, there is a small nurturing boarding house, where up to 50 pupils can board from Monday – Thursday, or flexibly on set nights during the term. Pupils have the option to join this community of ‘Feltonfleet Knights’ (complete with knighting ceremony!) from Year 3. Flexi options are incredibly popular with parents, who view it as helping their children prepare for senior school by encouraging greater independence.  Other parents report that their children board because they ‘want nothing more than to stay over at school with their friends, despite us living 10 minutes away’!
