Set in 35 acres and just a short walk from the River Thames, Queen Anne’s School, Caversham, is an independent boarding and day school for girls between the ages of 11-18.
n innovative education for an ever-changing world
The school prepares over 450 students every year for an ever-changing world through an exciting and continually evolving education, steeped in excellence and innovation.
One of the oldest girls’ schools in the country, Queen Anne’s School dates back to 1698 in London and moved to its current location in Caversham in 1894. The school is part of The United Westminster and Grey Coat Foundation and holds a biennial service at Westminster Abbey in London.
Although steeped in history and tradition, Queen Anne’s is a school that prepares kind, strong and fierce young women for the ever-changing world ahead. The cutting-edge curriculum and outstanding teaching is underpinned by BrainCanDo, the psychology and neuroscience research programme founded by Headmistress Julia Harrington. “You cannot teach, guide or inspire a teenager with any success unless you understand what stimulates their exuberant brains, or stall and depresses them,” says Mrs Harrington. “Our positive and inclusive approach to learning and behaviours helps every girls to get the best from themselves. It supports and inspires while at school but also prepares them for successful and happy lives.”
“There’s something magical about the place, it’s as much about life preparation as academics’. With such an array of first class facilities, tip top pastoral care, plus a culture of female empowerment, we think it’s definitely one for the list of any parent for whom happiness & roundedness are top priorities.”
– Good Schools Guide
With over 100 co-curricular activities available, the school offers a holistic approach to the girls’ learning, both in and outside the classroom. From animation to rowing, from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to Tycoons in School, there is a wealth of opportunities for students to discover their passions and their strengths.
The outstanding facilities have been further enhanced with the new Scott Music Centre, boasting a state-of-the-art recording studio, a suite of 24 iMacs and an impressive recital hall. Such facilities have allowed young musicians at Queen Anne’s to thrive, including most recently Sixth Form student Serena winning Young Berkshire Singer of the Year.
The next phase of development will see the creation of a 3G artificial turf to reflect the school’s strong sporting ethos. This year Queen Anne’s School was announced as the national runner up for the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA)’s School of the Year Award, and last year Queen Anne’s Alumna Bella captained the England women’s U19 lacrosse team at the world cup in Canada.
In 2020 100% of all GCSE exams received 9-4 (A*-C) grades with 50% of grades achieving 9/8/7 (A*/A).
