NEWCARDIAC SCREENING PROVIDES EXPERT ASSESSMENT OF CARDIAC RISK

Fromelite athletes to couch potatoes, heart conditions can affect anyone, so we should all be aware of the potential risks. A new cardiac screen has been added to the range of health screening services available at St Anthony’s. This simple and highly affordable service helps diagnose the underlying heart problems which can affect anyone, at any time.

Symptoms of heart disease can be difficult to detect. For certain conditions, the firstmajor symptomcan be sudden cardiac arrest. Screening services aimto detect the potential for these problems early. The new cardiac screen is non-invasive and the testing procedure takes little time. It consists of a simple questionnaire, a blood test, blood pressuremeasurement and a resting, 12 lead electrocardiogram. Results are interpreted by one of St Anthony’s consultant cardiologists, who will provide a written report.

Cardiac screening is particularly valuable to those in higher risk groups. These include individualswho are overweight, have a family history of heart problems or have a disease such as diabetes. Significantly, of allmale deaths between the ages of 35 and 55 in the UK, around half are caused by heart attacks. Ifmore people had a cardiac screen assessment, many of thesemight be avoided.
