Marie Teather talks to designer Amanda Lamb about her new home television show
Amanda Lamb is best known as the presenter of A Place in the Sun. She lives in Twickenham with her fiancé, cameraman Sean McGuinness, and their two-year-old daughter. The former model has a new programme called What the Neighbours Did, soon to be aired on Sky TV. Marie Teather caught up with her
Being on A Place in the Sun for so many years gave you insight into interior trends. How do British interiors differ from other countries? Until recently we were quite
compartmentalised, whereas in the US and Europe, rooms were larger and open plan. However, among the things we saw, making the new series, were a lot more walls being knocked down and open plan living areas created.
Do you think travel and hotels influence our design styles and trends? Absolutely. Even though we are living in tough times people still go overseas. We all tend to follow trends and take inspiration from hotels, TV programmes and magazines...
What do you think makes south-west London such a desirable area to live? I think it’s the best part of London. We have all these green spaces and the area has a village feel to it. I love knowing the name of my local butcher.
Do you change the look or design of your own home often? Yes! I’m always looking at different houses and styles. Once I’ve completed one I want to start the next.
Was it hard for you to compromise with Sean on house décor after living on your own? We both have very similar tastes and tend to agree on most things. I managed to get a chandelier in the bedroom!
